Play: SB Bunch- Flanker Drive

You can find this play in many books throughout Madden 11. I personally use it with Carolina, but almost any book with the SB Bunch formation will have this play. Here are two setups I use with this play:

You will notice I have different setups for when the defense is playing man and zone. You can read whether the defense is playing man or zone very easily from the SB Bunch formation. You just need to watch how the defenders are aligned as soon as you break the huddle. If the defenders are lined up immediately over your offensive players, the defense is in man coverage. However, if the defenders are fanned out towards the sideline and then slide in towards your receivers, the defense is in zone coverage.

Against Man Coverage:

*Make sure the lone WR is lined up on the short side of the field

  1. Slant out the lone WR and TE
  2. Streak the slot WR (in the bunch)
  3. Drag the outside WR (in the bunch)
  4. Motion the outside WR (in the bunch) one step to the inside and hike the ball

Against Zone Coverage:

*Make sure the lone WR is lined up on the short side of the field

  1. Slant out the lone WR
  2. Streak the slot WR (in the bunch)
  3. Drag the TE

Check out the video below to see how the reads and passing progression work for each setup!

Free NCAA Football 11 Tips: Shotgun Bunch Stack HB Strong – Quick Flat Iso

Here is another free tip from Madden Guides:

A few years ago we showed how to create stacks out of compressed formations. In NCAA Football 11, stack formations can still be created such as out of the SMU’s Shotgun Bunch HB Strong. In this Free NCAA Football 11 Tips video breakdown, we show how to stack the inside slot receiver behind the middle slot receiver. This allows us to be able to beat bump-n-run man coverage by throwing a quick bullet pass to the inside slot receiver. We call this Shotgun Bunch Stack HB Strong – Quick Flat Iso.

Here is another free tip from Madden Guides:

In this free NCAA Football 11 Tips video breakdown, we take a look at passing play from the SMU playbook that we like to run to beat man and bump-n-run man coverage. The name of the play is Shotgun Spread — RNS Switch.

This play has the left slot receiver running a wheel route. With the use of motion we can get him open for quick pass just before he breaks up the left side line that generally allows us to pick up at least 5-7 yards.

Redskins Singleback Bunch Scheme Play 1: Double Drags

Written by Shopmaster on . Posted in Madden Tips

Here is another free tip from Madden Guides:

Recently a Madden 11 Tips breakdown we did  in the X’s and O’s Filmroom was a six play scheme out from the Redskins Singleback Bunch formation. The first play we showed in our Redskins Singleback Bunch scheme is the Double Drags. This play can be run against both man and zone coverage. For this write up, we are going to show how we like to run it against bump-n-run man coverage.

clip image001 thumb9 Redskins Singleback Bunch Scheme Play 1: Double Drags

The flanker’s (B) dig is the route want to focus in on for this play.

clip image002 thumb9 Redskins Singleback Bunch Scheme Play 1: Double Drags

To get him open against bump-n-run man coverage we want to send him in motion to the right. Please keep in mind, the 6 plays we show in our Redskins Singleback Bunch scheme, we are going to send him in motion to the right.

clip image003 thumb9 Redskins Singleback Bunch Scheme Play 1: Double Drags

Before he sets, we want to snap the ball.

clip image004 thumb9 Redskins Singleback Bunch Scheme Play 1: Double Drags

Once the ball is snapped, the flanker will stop and …

clip image005 thumb9 Redskins Singleback Bunch Scheme Play 1: Double Drags

… and then take an inside release. This allows him to get off the line of scrimmage without being jammed.

clip image006 thumb9 Redskins Singleback Bunch Scheme Play 1: Double Drags

Once spot him open, we throw him a high bullet pass.

clip image007 thumb8 Redskins Singleback Bunch Scheme Play 1: Double Drags

We make the catch for 8 yard pick up.

Free Madden 11 Tips – Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep

Here is another free tip from Madden Guides:

In this free Madden 11 Tips breakdown, we take a look at zone blitz out of the Dime Normal. There is a fair amount of blitz schemes out there for the Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep. Obviously the most common is to do nothing at all and look to get heat from the inside defensive backs. In this breakdown, we hope to show you something you haven’t seen before.

As you can see, the Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep is Cover 2 defense with the safeties playing the deep halves of the field. Underneath, three defenders play hook zones. By looking at the play, you will notice that the pressure comes from the inside defensive backs who blitz off the edge. We are going to show you how to use them to get pressure on the quarterback by blitzing between the offensive tackles and guards.

clip image0055 thumb Free Madden 11 Tips Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep

To set the defense up, we hot route the right end into QB Contain.

clip image0065 thumb Free Madden 11 Tips Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep

We switch to the left end and hot route him into QB Contain as well.

clip image0075 thumb Free Madden 11 Tips Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep

Finally we take control of the middle linebacker and hot route him to blitz. We want to move him 5 to 7 yards off the line of scrimmage and in front of the center.

clip image0085 thumb Free Madden 11 Tips Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep

Once the ball is snapped, we fake blitz the middle linebacker so that the center is drawn out. The defensive end will take an outside pass rush angle and occupy the left and right offensive tackles.

clip image0095 thumb Free Madden 11 Tips Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep

Once we see the center coming towards us, we drop the middle linebacker back into a hook zone. Keep in mind that the strong side defensive tackle drops back in QB Spy.

clip image0105 thumb Free Madden 11 Tips Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep

The right inside defensive back, who is blitzing from the left side of the screen, will shoot unblocked between left tackle and left guard.

clip image0115 thumb Free Madden 11 Tips Dime Normal Strike 2 Deep

The left inside defensive back will shoot between the right tackle and right guard. Generally at least one if not both of them will apply some type of pressure on the quarterback.

We want thank Michura for this blitz concept. Although this not the play he sent in, it is still the same concept. Try this concept with some other defenses to see what type of pressure you can get.

NCAA Football 11 Tips – Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave

Written by Shopmaster on . Posted in Madden Tips

Here is another free tip from Madden Guides:

Bringing pressure on the quarterback has always been one of the most sought out strategies among NCAA players. We try to find ones that are easy to set up while bringing instant pressure on the quarterback.

ncaa nickel over storm brave 1 thumb NCAA Football 11 Tips Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave

The Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave is a good example of a defense that does just that. This defense sends 6 pass rushers after the quarterback, while five defenders play man coverage.

ncaa nickel over storm brave 2 thumb NCAA Football 11 Tips Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave

To set the defense we- hot route the linebackers to blitz. Notice their blitz angles are shooting straight down.  Next, we want to pinch the linebackers.

ncaa nickel over storm brave 3 thumb NCAA Football 11 Tips Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave

We then take control of the weak side defensive tackle and re-hot route him to blitz.  His pass rush angle now has him shooting the A gap between the C and LG.

ncaa nickel over storm brave 4 thumb NCAA Football 11 Tips Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave

These next two moves are optional. The ROLB can be moved down close to line of scrimmage so that his blitz angle shoots between the left guard and left tackle.

ncaa nickel over storm brave 5 thumb NCAA Football 11 Tips Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave

The only other move we make is take control of the FS and move him closer to the receiver he is covering. In this case, it’s the halfback.

ncaa nickel over storm brave 6 thumb NCAA Football 11 Tips Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave

From the top down view, you get a better of how the pass block assignments set up. Notice the ROLB is the one defender that is not blocked.

ncaa nickel over storm brave 7 thumb NCAA Football 11 Tips Nickel Normal Over Storm Brave

Once the ball is snapped, he shoots through the B gap between left guard and left tackle.

Key Points

A simple blitz to set up that attacks the offense with instant inside pressure.  Consider calling bump-n-run man coverage to slow down the receiver from getting out in their pass routes. Be aware this defense is a high risk/high reward defense. Meaning you may get sack or you may get burnt for a big play deep down the field if the blitz is picked up.

NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

Written by Shopmaster on . Posted in Madden Tips

Here is another free tip from Madden Guides:

In this NCAA Football Tips breakdown, we take a look at a passing concept that Run n Shoot offenses like to run called Gun Flanker Close Shallow Z Cross.

I am always looking for plays to beat bump-n-run man coverage .If you don’t practice these types of plays, chances are your passing game is going to struggle.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 01 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

A play I found out of the SMU playbook is called Gun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross. This play does a good job at beating bump-n-run man coverage by getting three receivers quickly into their pass routes without being jammed.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 02 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

To set the play up, we need to hot route the SE, left slot, and right slot on streaks.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 03 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

We take control of the FL and motion him to the left.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 04 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

He only needs to take a step or two before snapping the ball. Ideally we want to snap the ball when he gets behind the right slot.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 05 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

If done correctly, the FL and the right slot won’t be jammed. Also notice the RB is not jammed since he lines up in the back field. As far as eligible receivers are concerned, we look to throw to the RB first, then the right slot, and the FL.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 06 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

The RB may wide open in the flat, depending on who is covering him.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 07 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

If you are looking to pick up a good amount of yardage, the best option is the right slot, who is running a seam route down the middle of the field.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 09 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

When making the throw to him watch to see if the safety plays the deep middle or not. If they split out wide, then he should be open for a hard bullet pass down the middle.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 10 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

When making the throw, make sure to lead the pass towards the inside by pressing hard right on the left thumb stick or dpad.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 11 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

The right slot makes the catch for a 25 yard pick up.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 12 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

Our final receiver we look to throw to is the FL running the drag route underneath.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 13 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

As we pointed out already in the write up, he won’t be jammed at the line of scrimmage. If he has some good speed and acceleration, he should gain some separation on the defender covering him.  Once we spot him open, we throw a hard bullet pass.

ncaa gun flanker close z shallow cross 14 thumb NCAA Football Free Tips: Shotgun Flanker Close Z Shallow Cross

The catch is made and we look to pick up additional yardage.

Key Points

Overall this a good play to beat bump-n-run man coverage because of the multiple options that are available to throw to.  I am a big fan of the Run N Shoot playbooks in NCAA Football 11. I suggest if you haven’t had a chance to check out SMU, Hawaii or Run N Shoot generic playbook, I would.

Free Madden Tips – Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

Written by Shopmaster on . Posted in Madden Tips

Here is another free tip from Madden Guides:

Although the Nickel Odd Split can only be found in the Ravens playbook, it should not be overlooked because it is packed with man and zone blitz schemes. For this free Madden Tips write up we take a look at one of those Madden man nano blitz schemes, which is the Thunder Green.

clip image0023 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

clip image0033 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

  • Ravens

clip image0043 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

As you can see this is a Cover 0 defense that sends 6 pass rushers after the quarterback.

clip image0053 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

To set the defense up, we hot route the weak side defensive tackle into QB Contain.

clip image0063 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

We also hot route the strong side defensive tackle into QB Contain.

clip image0073 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

Finally we call bump-n-run man coverage.

clip image0083 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

The pressure comes from one of the inside linebackers.

clip image0093 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

Once the ball is snapped, both defensive tackles go out wide in their QB Contain assignments.

clip image0103 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

Notice the center looks to block one of the inside linebackers.

clip image0113 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

He decides to block the right inside linebacker, thus allowing the left inside linebacker a clear path at the quarterback.

clip image0123 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

With both defensive tackles in QB Contain, the quarterback can not roll out to either side to avoid the inside pressure provided by the left inside linebacker.

clip image0143 thumb Free Madden Tips Nickel Odd Split Thunder Green

We like this defense because of the inside pressure it brings, but just like any other Cover 0 defense, it can be burned if the blitz doesn’t get home before the quarterback is able to get rid of the ball. Please keep checking back for more free Madden Tips at Madden Guides.
