When I was growing up my mom wore a specific shirt every Sunday and it read “I root for two teams on Sunday. The Redskins and whoever is playing the Cowboys.” So it wasn’t a question who I was rooting for on Sundays and as I grew up I grew up really loving the Washington Redskins and was very grateful for seeing them win Championships. Some fans have never seen their team win 1 Superbowl and I happen to see 3. I remember when I was 8 and my uncle took me to go see the Redskins play the Dallas Cowboys at RFK. That Day we lost to the Dallas Cowboy 26-10, and I think I even cried in the car going home. It was the first game of the season and we end up losing our 5 games that season.
I seem to use the word “We” a lot when talking about the Washington Redskins even though I have never played for them but I have invested a lot of time and money in my favorite team. I have T-shirts, hats, cups, jerseys and try to go to as many games as I can. I’m always on Facebook and Twitter shouting out my Skins. I spark up a lot of conversation especially from my friends who are Cowboy fans (feel bad for them) and I can’t wait for the game tomorrow when “We” face them for a Thanksgiving throw-down. I’m such a die-hard Redskins fan that I planned my latest Vacation (to Cozumel) around the Redskins bye week so that I wouldn’t miss any action. You may think that’s crazy but it didn’t matter to my wife when we went so why not do it then. I was happy and she was happy …. both parties win … lol.
I don’t do a lot of shopping for friends and family but when I do I love giving sport related gifts, makes it easy if you know what that person’s favorite team. I found a really cool site called SportsFreak365.com where you can create custom calendars for your family. Even my Aunt who lives in Seattle and loves the Seahawks will love a custom calendar for Christmas. I went to the site and did a custom Redskins calendar and I was able to not only add photos of my favorite team but I also had the ability to write text in any of the days in the Calendar. So I was able to write the birthdays of my kids and relatives in the corresponding date boxes and it looks great. Check out the pictures that I took when it came in. SportsFreak365.com has more than custom calendars, they have everything a fan needs to show their team spirit including: cups, hats, t-shirts, golf bags, plates, tailgating kits, rugs, stuff for your office and home, and much more. So go check them out and show me who you root for!
