Deep Dive Into Connected Careers – Day 3 Diary

Written by Shopmaster on . Posted in Feature, Madden News 25 Comments

Good Morning Guys!

I’m going to jump into an improve gameplay build this morning and then I’ll go into Connected Careers some more.

Ok, playing the new build feels a lot better.  I don’t see arms loose like in the build earlier.  This is what I like.  I like when the guys give feedback and the devs go back upstairs, tweak some stuff and then push out a new build.  Victor Lugo also came down last night and showed some of the new guys how to tweak it themselves. There is a massive debug menu that we can control different aspects of the game.  It’s like “Super Sliders”!  We are able to change stuff like the tension of the players, the stumble/fall aspects, and adjust a lot of things. We are mostly messing with the stumble thresholds, fall thresholds, balance radius, etc …

It’s good stuff!  I’ll get into some more CCM after lunch, maybe … hopefully.

Ok, back in CCM -

Regular Season Week 2  (1-0)  Off Rank: 32  Def Rank: 1

Checklist:

1. Practice
2. Season Game vs. Rams (1-0)
3. Progress Players
4. Scouting
5. Advance Week

So, I’m going to sim the practice and the season game against the Rams just to hopefully get to the draft before I leave.  Just going to do Scouting.  Going to Progress my players after every 4 weeks.

So I actually did play the Rams and I’m noticing at the depth chart that guys are on hot and cold streaks already. I wish I could supply some pics, but we are not allowed to.

Steven Jackson is sooo hard to bring down.  Dang!

21-3 at the half.

I won 28-6

Now let’s hurry up and get to the next Week!

So after my game I was awarded the following XP Goals:

1. Team Pass TD’s 375XP
2. Allow 200 Yards or Less 100 XP
3. Allow 250 Yards or Less 100 XP

Week 3 (2-0) Off Rank. 32 Def Rank. 1

Checklist:

1. Practice
2. Season Game vs. Bengals (2-0)
3. Progress Players
4. Trade Block: RE M.Devito
5. Scouting
6. Negotiate: TE Fred Davis
7. Advance Week

Here are the Practice Senarios:

1. 3rd Qtr Tie – Easy – 200XP
2. 10 Point Lead – Easy – 300XP
3. Easy Win – Easy – 500XP
4. Cake Walk – Easy – 200XP
5. Offense – Normal – 1000XP
6. Defense – Normal – 1000XP
7. The Grind – Normal – 400XP
8. Halftime – Normal – 300XP
9. Hold the Lead – Normal – 300XP
10. 3rd Quarter Rally – Hard – 400XP
11. No Mistakes – Hard – 400XP
12. Uphill Battle – Hard – 400XP
13. Close Call – Hard – 300 XP
14. Comeback King – Hard – 600XP
15. The Trench – Hard – 400XP
16. 2 Minute Drill – Hard – 300XP
17. Final Stand – Normal – 400XP
18. Aint Over Yet – Hard – 750XP
19. Endzone Protection – Hard – 400XP
20. Clutch – Very Hard – 750XP
21. RedZone – Very Hard – 500XP
22. Hopeless – Very hard – 600XP

Reminder: These scenarios may not be set in stone as well as the difficulty and the amount of XP you get.

When you take a look at someone on the trade block you see the positions that the team that are offering them up needs.  So the Jets are offering up their RE which I need and need a WR, QB, and LOLB.  QB seems odd since they have Sanchez. I offered them my LOLB (74OVR) and a 5th round draft pick.  The Jets declined.

So now I’m negotiating with TE Fred Davis.  You have the choice to Negotiate, Withdraw from the Negootiating table or delegate the CPU to negotiate on your behalf.  Fred Davis wants  4 years 13.7M with a 5.8M Bonus.  I think I’m going to Franchise Tag him so I’m going to low ball him and if he doesn’t accept it I’m going to Franchise Tag.  So I offered Davis 13M over 4 Yrs. I could always put him on the Trading block too.  So there are a number of things you can do.

So now I’m going to scout some players. When you go to the scouting on your checklist it gives you an assesment of of your team.  So right now, the two areas that I have low ratings for is OL at 75 and DL at 76.  My QB position is 74, but I’m happy with RG III.

Awwwwwww …. I lost connection to the servers and can’t get back on.  So I guess that’s it for Connected Careers for me today.

Back to the new Gameplay Build …

Nice! I hope you have fun! Could you comment on what is improved with this new build? I am mainly concerned with how the physics tuning is going and also what kind of tuning they are doing with OL/DL.. Specifcally the DE’s. I just wish they would make them get up field faster and speed rush.

    • Shopmaster

So the clear and obvious thing you notice right away is that arms are tighter and have some tension. You don’t see people getting tackled and their arms being pinned behind their backs. The arms are tighter to the body and brace for hit.

  • jpdavis1982

Yeah I’d like to know what has improved in gameplay in the build you’re playing today also. So is this a even newer build than what you played after lunch yesterday?

    • Shopmaster

No, same build. I didn’t get to play it yesterday, was still in CCM.

      • jpdavis1982

Sounds like CCM is going to be a black hole

  • jpdavis1982

Have the running animations, footplanting, and zig zag running improved in this new gameplay build?

    • Shopmaster

I’m need more time with it.

  • ch46647

I know he talked about muscle tension tuning. One thing I hope they do is really kick in the “rag doll” affect when somebody is hit in the air or from behind (QB blind side hit). This is where physics really shines :) . Also it would make defending the pass a lot easier because people would be more cautious throwing to recievers across the middle or right in the path of a defensive player.
I never liked in previous Maddens that I could never really bring the wood to a WR catching a ball. Physics should really cause some mind blowing hits when hitting a WR looking at the football.

if u have played any games so far how is the spec catching this year…like if these tall wr’s go up for the spec catch can i come through and hit stick them and jar the ball loose….or will a shorter DB still have a chance to make a play on the ball as the bigger wr is coming down with the ball to break up the play?

    • Shopmaster

You can also rake the ball out of their hand when they come down from the catch and force the ball out.

how is Oline doing in gaing xp?

    • Shopmaster

So the Oline gains XP depending on how well you are rushing or passing the ball.

How many players were you able to progress, and
is it a task to get enough xp to do so, same goes for scouting, is it a
real task to get enough xp to scout the players you want?

    • Shopmaster

They are still tuning XP you get. I think it was too little.

  • simon

Are the players names used more in the commentary then they were in the E3 videos?

    • jason

I’ve heard they are but I’d like to hear Shop’s opinion on this also

    • Shopmaster

      Yes it is.

      • simon

        Great! Thanks!

  • pabryant

Quick question Shopmaster, if you don’t mind, when you trade or the cpu
attempts to trade with you, do you have the large number of trade
packages that Head Coach had or is it similar to the trading style we
have seen in Madden games thus far?
    Thanks in advance.

    • Shopmaster

No trade packages, you just put up a player or draft picks or both.

  • Joseph

Thanks for all the unfettered access to your mindset while playing the game. If you don’t mind me asking, Shopmaster, do you have any way of seeing if a player (QB specifically) is left or right handed before scouting them? Also, is their throwing motion part of the unlockable traits that you can scout?

I’m also wondering about practice. Is there a way to practice but without doing a scenario? Like, if I just want to practice plays with my team as it exists, to test out playbooks to see how they fit with my personnel. . . not necessarily to get XP or anything, is that possible? Or at the very least export a CCM team to be used to play online or in play now mode?

    Thanks!

    • Shopmaster

I didn’t see anyway to scout what hand a QB throws with, that’s a good one.

So you can only practice once per week, but to get around it you may start a practice, quit and then start again. Some of our feedback was to lose XP if you do that, but we also stated the benefit for not doing it so people can practice with their team. I vote for exporting a CCM team. Not happening this year though.

In your opinion, does Connected Careers have staying power and the ability to keep people playing until 14 releases?

  • Ryan Jones

When you offer the CPU teams a trade do they pretty much accept any trade like they did in Madden 12 or is it finally more similar to real life where only fair trades are accepted?? Last year i had friends trading the CPU second string players for guys like Troy Polomalu or Brian Urlacher which made trading stupid so we had to just turn it off

    • Ryan Jones

in the online version i mean
