Ravens Safety Ed Reed a No-Show at Minicamp

Ed Reed is not on the field participating in the first day of the Ravens’ three-day mandatory minicamp, spurring even more questions about the mercurial safety’s desire to play in 2012, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Reed, the eight-time Pro Bowl selection who is entering the final year of his contract, has expressed some discontent with the Ravens on several occasions this offseason, and has yet to fully commit to playing this coming season though team officials have said that they expect to have him.

Unless his absence was cleared by the team — and that’s certainly a possibility — Reed, 33, could be subject to a fine for not showing up. According to the collective bargaining agreement, players under contract could be fined more than $70,000 for blowing off the mandatory three-day mini-camp.
