In this interview with Madden NFL 13′s Creative Developer of Connected Careers; Josh Looman, we get into how in-season scouting is done in Connected Careers.

You can scout the upcoming draft throughout the whole season and not just before the draft.  You get scouting points to unlock attributes for those players including some new attributes that only existed in Head Coach. In-Season scouting is just one small piece to Connected Careers that will make this the most in-depth franchise experience ever to be in the Madden Franchise.

Without customisation (E.g. Player edit) i think i’ll stick with Madden 12. As a game changer, is it something you agree should be there? Can you use your influence for Madden 14 development?

    • Shopmaster

I 100% agree it should be added.  I also think it’s not as easy as people seem to think it is to add something like this to Connected Careers. In CCM you have a scheme and when you start editing players, then you start messing with their scheme and some of the things that make CCM work.  It’s definitely not just a plug and play feature.

There doesn’t have to be the old way of doing it. There has to be a new way for EA to allow users to edit their players appearance/equipment/position. I think attributes rating is worthless and takes away the whole point of a Franchise and building etc but I do not see how editing a guys appearance or his number would affect a team’s scheme or mess things up.

it wouldn’t josh the loser looman didnt have time because of all the useless crap they put in the game took to much time looman motto phuck the players this is my exclusive license and ill will build the way i want not the way you want

Great to hear you agree, I appreciate the complexities but it’s good to know you’ll be helping the community get this feature in a future Madden CCM. Immersion for me is aided by realism and no matter how great the CPU is, correcting numbers, equip, names etc. is crucial for me in case things go wrong. Thanks for the replying…

shopmaster i dont understand how you guys can tell him this game is great, no playoffs , no superbowl, im telling you people thought the other maddens was bad im telling you are going to get tired of this game. what in the hell pratice got to do with playing football have of us dont even do that crap.

        • Shopmaster

Where do you get there is no playoffs or no Super Bowl? Are you serious? So you’d rather play franchise online in Madden 12 than Connected Careers?

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ODSIAGC55PNMR6HUVTUMTR7SQY chris o

ya i would rather play madden 12 than CCM YOU HAVE NO SAY IN ANYTHING WITH CCM NOT EVEN A NUMBER CHANGE NOTHING!!!!!

        • wyzanow

uh there is playoffs and superbowl btw this feature isn’t even near completion plenty of time to get little things fixed and bugs which they are at the moment read around the internet go read dev blog and you willl want tthis game

  • Terceirafire

as a player inn connected carrers do i have the camera angle from my player only and control him only???

    • Shopmaster

I don’t think the camera is any different, but yes you control only your player.

I will double check the camera part of the question.  Thanks for the question!

josh looman sucks all he did was take away all of the users power in running there team. im soo pissed that i cant even change my players equipment or anything ):

  • disappointed in M13

No one else has an issue with manual player progression in an online franchise? Any way the commissioner can turn manual progression off?

    • Shopmaster

So you rather have the computer manually progress your players?  I don’t have a problem with this new system, I think it allows you more control.

If you want you can have the CPU progress your players for you, but you can not turn off the XP.  If you let the CPU do your progression, they will buy the packs for you using the XP that you earn.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ODSIAGC55PNMR6HUVTUMTR7SQY chris o

ah no it doesnt allow you more control its less control a lot less you can’t even change a number

  • Guestguest

If people didn’t like Head Coach enough to spawn a sequel, why are they forcing its features into Madden? Why can’t they try just giving us a game that has the features we actually request?

    • http://twitter.com/JuiceAdams881 Juice Adams 88

       what features are you requesting?

    • Shopmaster

These are the features that people have been requesting.  Ability to trade picks, multiple picks.  The ability to practice in online franchise, the ability to scout rookies all year long, the ability to progress your players, the ability to have a deep draft experience.

What feature are you requesting that’s not in Connected Careers?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ODSIAGC55PNMR6HUVTUMTR7SQY chris o

I want 2k5 franchise mode thats it nothing more nothing less that was the only true franchise mode ever done

        • Shopmaster

The halftime shows with Chris Berman, da crib, celebrity game were nice. We still have our 2K5 right?

  • WorldBStar

Roster editing. I’m not even talking about just player editing. I want to be able to go into CC with my own roster the way I set it up. Finally we have all-time great trios like Young, Rice, Sanders and Aikman, Irvin, Smith (with Sanders) but I can’t put ‘em on the team and run with them in CC? This game is shaping up to be one of those games that’s like “Oh man… they had GREAT ideas but didn’t execute them properly”

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ODSIAGC55PNMR6HUVTUMTR7SQY chris o

thats every madden game josh looman sucks

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Curtis-Leon-Douglas/100000586305337 Curtis Leon Douglas

the problem is you guys act like you are scared to tell him the truth head coach was a boreing game after 2 seasons of it . i had head coach im telling you .nothing has changed but you guys loved dogging ian and phil when their game wasnt the greatest. but you like kissing his ass. and madden is nfl football with 32 teams. no halftime show no mascots in it.its a damm shame.

    • Shopmaster

Really? We talking about no Mascots in the game? I’m very vocal when I talk with developers and really honest also. I told them the community was going to be upset with no fantasy draft option this year and I got the same response you guys got. I understand that people want a halftime show, but there are also people that wanted this in-depth kind of online franchise. It sucks, really sucks that player editing is not in the game. I don’t use it but it sucks that others do and now they won’t be able to for Connected Careers. Head Coach was boring because you couldn’t play, you just called plays. This is not Head Coach.

  • Jesus

Madden sucks. NFL 2K5 is better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ryan.c.wallace.7 Ryan Craig Wallace

Why can’t I adjust a roster and start a career with it the way I want. I always spend A day or two adjusting the ratings every year before I even play a game or start a franchise this is a huge problem.

  • nmmatt

lol, every single comment is negative on every single media article about this game. Seriously. I’ve never seen such a negative reaction to a release. I’ve never seen such a disconnect between the developers and the useless fawning media compared to the actual people that play the games.

This game is going to flop. It might be a hit with the 5% of players who spend 12 hours a day online and find perverse enjoyment in simulating being a third string corner back in the NFL. Meanwhile, the 95% of former Madden fans who played offline franchise mode hate it.
