10 Things The Madden 12 Teaser Video Showed

March 22, 2011 in Feature, Madden Articles

I mentioned in my other post that the teaser video was just that – a teaser, but as we take a closer look at the video we find it did more than just tease.  The video did exactly what it was meant to do, yearn for for more.  Let’s take a look at the video up closer and see what we can find.  There are 10 blobs that appear on the screen, we will break all 10 down.

First the video, in case you haven’t seen it:

Blob #1:  Broadcast Mode

The first blob appears to be some kind of Broadcast mode in Online Franchise Mode.  You can see a chat box at the bottom of what looks like 2 games that are going on at the same time.  You can see the players names, the teams they are playing with, the score, qtr., time remaining, and messages.  It also displays how many games have started and has the franchise name at the top.

This gives me great hope that there is some kind of Broadcast mode for online games.  I know we would all love spectator mode, but right now this is a great start.  A great first blob to let the speculations start rolling.

Blob #2: Running

This blob was kind of confusing because at first glance you are saying to yourself “It just looks like someone running”.  After looking at this more than 10 times though you begin to notice other things going on.  The grass looks a lot better.  I don’t think it looks as good as NCAA’s grass but it could be because of the angle and it being so small.  You also notice more camera guys and photographers on the far sidelines.  I couldn’t tell if the players on the sidelines looked better or were different from each other.  Back to the running, the players don’t look like they are sliding around but I would have like to see some cuts.  I didn’t see any turf flying up in the air as people had been saying about the onside kick video that was put out during the SuperBowl but once again with such a small portion it’s hard to tell.

Blob #3: “Sweetness”

The 3rd blob was what seems to be the player card of Walter Payton.  This has to be MUT, which should make MUT fans happy.  Not much to tell about this blob except for that.

Blob #4: Blimp View

I couldn’t tell if this was just pre-game but there were no teams on the field and the camera had to be what some of us remember as the blimp view in previous Maddens.

Blob #5: FG Kick

At first glance I thought that the kicking meter was different and I still have a feeling that the kicking meter will be different for Madden 12.  The reason I think that it will be different is because in the videos they have shown about kicking, there has been no view of the meter.  The onside kick video, showed no video of the meter.  This blob was very small and cut off portions of the screen so to obstruct if the meter was below or in the corner of the screen. With so many people complaining about the current kicking meter, I would imagine that the Madden team would change it.

Back to the blob 5 which showed the FG kick.  I know it may be trivial but I also like way the ball bounces after it hit the ground, looks very realistic.  It doesn’t just die, it bounces like a real football.  I couldn’t tell if there was a net or not but the way the ball came down there probably was.

Blob #6: Onside Kick

Nothing really new here.  We have all seen the video of the onside kick and it looks solid.  The only problem I had was that the defender didn’t run back first, so he wasn’t surprised but he did an awful slide to pick up the ball.  He was no where close to the ball and the kicker picked t up too easily.  Actually real surprised they showed it like that.  He was a good 2-3 yards away from the ball as he slid away from it.  The ball didn’t even take a funny bounce.  It’s going to be interesting to see how effective onside kicks are but they need to fix that animation.

Blob #7: Field Entrances

This one was a little shocking because when I first saw it I was thinking, “Why are they showing college entrances”.  I forget that even in the NFL there are mascots that lead the team on the field.  This blob shows the Titans being led onto the field by their mascot (T-Rac) on a motorized chariot.

Here is a picture of him in real life

After the Titans take the field they show the TB Bucs (thanks to @PSRusse for the correction) and a camera in front of #5 while he walks and gives his teammates low-fives.

This has got me wondering what other unique entrances are there in the NFL.  Please comment below about your teams’ unique entrance at the beginning of games.

Blob #8: Player Tendencies

This blob shows a picture of Ray Rice in what has to be some kind of Franchise Mode.  Beside his picture is a hot flame which probably indicated that the player is hot.  As the video continues to play it then switches to a snowflake which probably indicates the player is cold.  The interface for Franchise mode looks to have been redesigned as well.

Blob #9:  Custom Playbooks

Hallelujah!!! I can’t express how much I have wanted this in the game right behind spectator mode. I don’t know what kind of limitations the custom playbook feature is going to have but it did show that you can pick from Wildcat formations.  Looks good.

Blob #10: New Rating System?

This one was kind of hard to figure out also as it was the last blob so it didn’t stay on the screen long enough.  It looks like a new rating system with stars.  The picture shows what looks like QB attributes at the top with stars beside them.  The picture was LT, so it was kind of confusing to see QB attributes like Tuck and Run and Scramble out of the Pocket followed by 4 stars.

There were some other attributes also that I couldn’t make out:

- Tuck and Run
- Scrambles out of the pocket
-  Senses Pressure
- Forces Passes
- Tries Deep Ball
- Initiates contact
- ~~~~~~~ Ball
-  ~~~~~ Ball in Air

Then as the video went on the stars turned into Sometimes, Trigger Happy, Conservative, Ball Hawk, Brace vs Med Hitters.

the ~~~~~ indicate words I couldn’t make out.

So there you go.  The video was only 36 seconds long, but as you can see it was packed with some goodies to keep Madden fans wanting more.

As always please leave your comments on what you saw and fill in some things I might have missed.
