Shaun Rogers Schedules Visit With Redskins

Free agent nose tackle Shaun Rogers will visit with the Washington Redskins on Friday.

Chris Russel of ESPN 980 confirmed Jay Glazer‘s initial report on Rogers meeting with the Redskins. The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans are both also reportedly interested in Rogers.

Rogers had only 14 tackles and two sacks with the Cleveland Browns in 2010 before the team released him on Tuesday. While the 32-year-old saw a major decrease in playing time last season, Rogers can still get after the quarterback and Rob Ryan–his coordinator in Cleveland for the past two years–insists he is a “tremendous physical specimen”.

Since Rogers–a 10-year veteran–has more than four years of NFL experience, he can can be signed by another team between now and March 4, per NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.

The Redskins, meanwhile, have a massive void at nose tackle with both Albert Haynesworth and Maake Kemoeatu on their way out.

Hayneworth, who was already suspended for the final four games of the season, furthered his doghouse status with an arrest for simple assault last week. The team is actively pursuing a trade for the two-time Pro Bowler, but according to CSN Washington, his value may have sunk all the way down to a seventh-round pick in the 2013 draft.

Kemoeatu started 12 games at nose tackle in 2010 he will be coming off surgery on a shoulder injury that forced him onto I.R. in December. The Redskins will likely search for a replacement for the 32-year-old in the upcoming draft.

As a Skins fan we need to stop getting old guys that used to play good.  I’d rather have a young guy with less skill but is hungrier and has a bigger potential.
